GUN-wielding thugs threatened a man as he answered his door during a late night incident in a Suffolk town.

Police, who said they were taking the matter “extremely seriously”, appealed for anyone who saw the two masked men when they struck in Fornham Road, Bury St Edmunds, at just after 10pm on Tuesday, to come forward.

A spokesman said the homeowner head noises outside his front door and went to investigate: “He went to the door and found two males outside, who threatened him with what is believed to be a firearm. The man challenged the males and they ran off down Avenue Approach.”

One of the men was white, between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall, of average build, with blue eyes and was wearing black or navy clothing including a woollen hat and gloves, a shiny black jacket and a scarf over his face.

His accomplice was white, between 5ft 6in and 5ft 8in tall, of average build and was wearing black or navy clothing including a woollen hat and gloves and a scarf over his face.

The spokesman said detectives wanted were appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen the two males or anyone else with any information about the incident to call DC Mel Stammers at Bury CID on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

No shots were fired during the incident.
