DETECTIVES are investigating after a woman claimed she was driven out of a west Suffolk town and seriously sexually assaulted by three men.

Few details are being released by police about the alleged incident, which is understood to have happened near Bury St Edmunds during the early hours of August 13.

Detectives are trying to trace the three men who allegedly indecently assaulted the woman but so far no arrests have been made.

A spokeswoman for the police said: “A woman has claimed she was driven out of Bury in the early hours of August 13 and alleges three men seriously sexually assaulted her before she was returned to Bury.

“Inquiries are ongoing.”

In a separate incident, police have arrested an 18-year-old man after a 16-year-old girl reported being indecently assaulted on the top deck of a bus as it left Sudbury.

The girl's ordeal began when she got on a bus in Sudbury between 5pm and 5.20pm on Monday.

She went onto the top level of the double-decker bus, which was travelling from Sudbury to Ipswich.

Police say a man followed her onto the bus and sat down beside the 16-year-old girl and then groped her for about 20 minutes.

A spokeswoman for the police said: “The man spoke to her and touched her inappropriately several times. She tried to push him away but he remained seated.

“He continued to touch her until she became upset and he moved to another seat. The girl got off the bus in Hadleigh but the man remained on the bus.

“This was a terrifying incident for the victim who was so shocked that she was frozen to the spot whilst the man carried out his assault. Two other people were sat on the top deck of the bus at the time, we would urge those people to come forward as they may hold important information about this incident.''

The man arrested is currently in custody at Bury police station where he will be questioned. Police have renewed their appeal for information about the incident, and particularly want to speak to two people who also travelled on the top deck of the bus which left Sudbury Bus Station at 5pm on Tuesday.
