A 21-year-old man has been arrested by police investigating a sexual assault in Bury St Edmunds last month.

A woman told officers she went out in the town on Friday, October 30 and woke up at around 6.50am on the following day in bushes in a coppiced area next to the Parkway pelican crossing between the Wilco Car Park towards Spring Lane and the fire station. She was semi-clothed and was with a man who she did not know, police said.

The 21-year-old man handed himself into police on Sunday after seeing publicity about the incident and was interviewed by detectives. He was bailed until February 17, 2016 as police continue to investigate the sex assault.

Police are continuing to ask anyone who may have seen a man and a woman together in the area at around 4am on Saturday, October 31 to come forward.
