Police have made a total of five arrests after a man was stabbed in Haverhill last weekend.

Three men, one aged 25 and two aged 21, were all arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm in Nottinghamshire this morning.

The arrests follow a stabbing that happened near Haverhill Rugby club last Saturday, June 23.

Police were called at about 6.10pm to a car park near the entrance to the rugby club, where the victim and his friend were approached by five or six males as they left a white Vauxhall Astra.

An altercation is thought to have taken place before one of the group stabbed the victim, who got back in the car with his friend and travelled along School Lane before calling for help.

The victim, in his 30s, suffered a punctured lung from a single stab wound to the chest. Following surgery, he is now in a stable condition in hospital.

Police previously arrested an 18-year-old man and a teenage girl, both from Haverhill, on Sunday, June 24. The man was arrested on suspicious of grevious bodily harm, while the girl was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. They have both since been released under investigation.

The three men arrested today remain in police custody for questioning.

Witnesses or anybody with any information regarding the incident are asked to call police on 101, quoting reference 34609/18. Alternatively, people can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or via the anonymous online form at
