Police are appealing for help from the public in tracing the driver of a car which failed to stop at the scene of a crash on the A12.

The multiple vehicle collision took place at 6.40pm on New Year’s Eve on the Colchester-bound carriageway at Witham. A black Porsche Cayenne four-wheel-drive is reported to have collided with a black or dark coloured saloon vehicle, causing the Porsche to then collide with a blue Mercedes C220 and leave the road up a steep verge before rolling back onto the main A12 on its roof. Three other cars collided behind the initial collision as they took evasive action.

One person sustained a minor injury and the road was blocked for just over an hour.

The driver of the saloon car failed to stop. It is believed the car would have been damaged on the driver’s side.

If anyone is aware of a black or dark coloured car which appears to have been damaged since New Year’s Eve, they are asked to contact the investigating officer Pc Andrew Sumner at 2759@essex.pnn.police.uk or call 101 and quote incident 782 of December 31.
