A 42-year-old man has been arrested after the drivers of two cars both ran off following a crash in Sudbury this morning.

Suffolk police officers were called to Newton Road at 10.50am to reports of a two vehicle collision.

A police spokesman said the crash had involved a silver BMW three series and a silver VW Golf, but on arrival officers found that both drivers had left the scene.

A 42-year-old man was later arrested on suspicion of drink driving before being taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution.

A BT pole was also brought down as a result of contact from at least one of the cars.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash or has any information to contact investigating officers on 101, quoting CAD 133 of today.
