A dynamic community choir from Suffolk will be taking to the stage at Latitude today, as they open one of the key venues at the legendary music festival.
The 60 singers from Pop Chorus, a feel-good choir founded in Framlingham in 2012, will open the BBC Music Stage – an enormous, circle-style big top tent, which has hosted the likes of FatBoy Slim and Jack Garrett.
In lieu of a performance fee at Latitude, head of Festival Republic, Melvin Benn, will present the choir with a donation of £1,000 to their chosen charity, Iceni Ipswich – which supports families affected by addiction, poverty and other inequalities.
A spokesperson for the group said: “The choir are really excited about tomorrow’s performance and have been working really hard in recent months to be performance-ready for this prestigious gig.
“We’re enormously grateful to Melvin and the wonderful team at Festival Republic for their support and generosity and only hope that as well as providing essential funds for this crucial local charity, it also continues to raise awareness about the vital work they carry out in Ipswich and the surrounding area.”
