PORNOGRAPHY and drugs paraphernalia have been found by a team sent in to clean up two of Suffolk's busiest roads.

A range of discarded items were found along the A11 and the A14 during work by Forest Heath District Council and St Edmundsbury Borough Council to keep the verges along the roads clean.

While clearing a lay-by in Forest Heath, the crew discovered an empty cash till, explicit material and drug-related items.

Peter Stevens, chairman of the joint waste and street scene services committee, said: “It is extremely disappointing that due to the thoughtless actions of some road users we have to deal with such huge amounts of disgusting litter.

“However, this crew is doing a precarious job safely and without incident. There is a marked improvement in the appearance of the main trunk routes into the eastern region and we take great pride in that”

In the past year, the team has collected 32 tonnes of waste from their 33 kilometre section of the A11 and A14, including 883 bottles containing an estimated 1.25 tonnes of urine.
