Glastonbury Road Post Office opened yesterday at a new location in the town – Horringer Court Store – following the closure of the previous branch in 2015.

The old branch, based at 14 Glastonbury Road – a building not owned by the Post Office, closed due to the resignation of the postmaster and withdrawal of premises for post office use.

The Post Office says it is pleased to be able to restore a service to customers in the community.

The branch is now open Monday to Friday from 7am–10.30pm, Saturdays from 7.30am–10.30pm and Sundays from 8am until 10pm.

Wendy Hamilton, Post Office area network change manager, said: “We are delighted to be able to restore a post office to this community.

“We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents.

“We are confident that this vibrant new-style post office at the heart of the local community will meet customer needs.

“This modernisation is part of a major investment programme, the largest in the history of the Post Office.”

Residents and small business customers will be able to access a wide range of Post Office and mails services, including special delivery, Local Collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals.

Other services include Post Office card account withdrawals, sending funds abroad using Moneygram, and customers can also pay bills, pre-order travel money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.

In June, the return of the post office was hailed as “fantastic” by ward councillor Richard Rout.

He said: “It has been some time since local people have had this facility on their doorsteps and along with all the economic benefits, it’s a real point of contact for people.”
