HUNDREDS of home and businesses were left without electricity today after a power cut in central Ipswich.

An underground cable fault at 9.30am affected about 450 customers in the town centre. Supply was restored in stages thoughout the day with the last customers coming back on at about 2.15pm.

Meanwhile, an overhead cable fault at 10.35am resulted in 100 customers losing power in the Sproughton area of Ipswich.

EDF Energy engineers are currently on site and we aim to restore supplies as quickly and safely as possible.

A spokesman for the firm said: “We do understand how much inconvenience any disruption to power supplies can cause and we apologise for the difficulties this incident is causing.”
