The winners who tracked down all 18 artworks in the Bury St Edmunds World War 1 Trail competition have been presented with their prizes.
A top prize of £100 in vouchers was presented to Linda Hoggett with four further prizes of £25 in vouchers and five prizes of £10 vouchers donated by the Ourburystedmunds business group that organised the initiative.
The competition involved seeking out the poignant artworks that were on display around the town from the beginning of the school summer holidays until Armistice Day.
Thousands of people visited the town to find all or some of the unique pieces, which were all made by local artists. More than 500 correct entries from Bury St Edmunds and much further afield were eligible for a chance to win one of the prizes.
The initiative raised funds for the Every Heart Matters appeal, which is co-ordinated by the My WiSH charity supporting the West Suffolk Hospital.
Mark Cordell, Ourburystedmunds chief executive, said: “Many of the artists involved had also participated in our wolf trail three years ago, which was a huge success.
“However the stories behind these works of art were so special and moving that it was a wonderful way to commemorate such an important piece of history and I’m very pleased that so many people took the trouble to seek them all out.
“Congratulations to all the winners and I hope they enjoy spending their vouchers in our town centre shops.”
Head of fundraising at My WiSH Charity, Sue Smith, said: “It’s been lovely to hear from the prize winners how much they enjoyed discovering all the different works of art.
“The trail was so well received, which was our intention and I hope that people who fell in love with some of the pieces will now bid for them when they are auctioned.
“I would like to say thank you to Ed Crichton at Lacy, Scott Knight for doing this free of charge for us. By doing so they will be supporting our appeal, which now has its target in sight, to help cardiac patients across West Suffolk.”
The artworks are all due to be sold on December 15 between 1-2pm in a fine art and antiques sale at Lacy, Scott and Knight, with the proceeds going to the Every Heart Matters appeal.
