Passengers are set to benefit from a revamped building at Colchester’s North Station under plans from Network Rail.
The agency has submitted a joint application with operator Abellio Greater Anglia to redevelop the northern building and platforms.
A previous project has already seen the southern building rebuilt with a new entrance area and drop-off zone.
The new scheme will see the main concourse and ticket hall demolished and replaced with a new ticket office area, shop, and a lift.
Back office areas including a mess room, toilets and manager’s office will also be revamped, with a temporary ticket office installed for four months on the station forecourt while work is carried out.
The project has been put forward with funding from Network Rail’s National Station Improvement Programme, and aims to improve flow for the 4.4million passengers who use the station each year.
Network Rail said it would not comment on the plans before planning approval had been granted by Colchester Borough Council.
However it has released several computer generated images of how the new station may look once completed.
