Campaigners set against a proposed incinerator in Essex hosted a meeting tonight which marked 25 years since their protest began.
Parishes Against Incinerator (PAIN) announced their plan to continue fighting for communities they believe will be negatively impacted by the proposed Rivenhall incinerator at the Spring Lodge Community Centre in Witham this evening.
Protestors spoke out against the new £500million facility, proposed for Rivenhall Airfield, with PAIN chair Nick Unsworth suggesting the plume from the incinerator would affect people living further afield in towns such as Colchester, Braintree and Witham as well as villages closer to the site.
Witham MP Priti Patel chaired the meeting, which was attended by almost 150 people. Members of the audience also called for a new approach to the way in which waste is processed.
A decision on the latest plans is not expected in the near future.
