A RESCUE helicopter from Suffolk was involved in the search for a missing angler after his empty boat was found in an Essex river.

The RAF crew from Wattisham used thermal imaging equipment during a two-hour operation from around 9pm last night, while coastguards from Burnham and Southend trawled the River Crouch and its shores.

The man's 22ft angling vessel Jensa was eventually found anchored in the river, but despite an extensive search, he was not found.
