£4,500 of fishing equipment has been stolen from a house in Ramsey, Essex.

Police are appealing for information following the break-in at a house in Mayes Lane.

Suspects gained entry to the house via an unlocked back door and stole a handbag from inside while the householders were asleep. The thieves then smashed a window to the garage before climbing in and stealing around £4,500 of Daiwa fishing equipment - including rods, reels, tackle and a remote-controlled bait boat. Before smashing the window they has also made an attempt to force the front door of the garage causing damage.

The burglary took place between 10pm on Monday, March 17 and 3.30am on Tuesday, March 18. Police would like to hear from anyone who saw any suspicious activity in the area or who is offered a substantial amount of fishing equipment for sale.
