THREE friends have appeared in court charged with the rape of a teenage girl at a house in Colchester.

Daniel Guy, Lee Stephens and James Minors have been charged with the offences following an incident at Guy's home in Salamanca Way, off Layer Road, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The trio appeared at Colchester Magistrates' Court today and were all released on conditional bail.

Stephens, of Barnfields in Stanway, Colchester, is charged with two counts of rape, one of which is a joint charge with Minors, a building surveyor, of Firstore Drive in the town centre.

Guy, a 26-year-old drayman, is charged with aiding and abetting rape and a charge of sexual assault.

Minors, 25, who wore a dark suit and tie, 24-year-old Stephens, dressed in a checked red shirt and jeans, and bearded Guy, who wore a grey cardigan, white shirt and jeans, did not enter pleas during the short hearing today.

The case was adjourned and transferred to the crown court in Chelmsford where Minors, Guy and Stephens will appear for a plea and case management hearing on April 15.

The court was told the charges related to an incident on Sunday morning when an 18-year-old girl called police and alleged she had been attacked by the three defendants.
