A RAPIST who admitted attacking a 14-year-old girl in a Suffolk alleyway has been warned he faces a substantial prison sentence.
Alamgir Kabir pleaded guilty to rape when he appeared at Ipswich Crown Court yesterday for a plea and case management hearing.
The 35-year-old assaulted the teenager on August 5 in an alley in Wildes Score, which is between Lowestoft’s High Street and Whapload Road.
Michael Crimp prosecuting said it was accepted that Kabir was pleading guilty on a limited basis.
The court heard the defendant did not realise the girl was only 14 years old.
The attack occurred when the victim thought she was going down the alleyway in order to get a light for a cigarette.
Kabir contended he believed the girl was going into the alley to engage in consensual sexual activity.
He accepted he touched the youngster, but before matters went further he realised there was no consent from the girl.
Kabir placed his hand on her, changed the position of her clothing and raped her in the knowledge that she did not agree to have sex.
The court heard Kabir, who listened to proceedings through a Bengali interpreter, had no previous convictions.
Judge David Goodin told Kabir: “The offence to which you plead guilty is, as you know, a very serious one and must lead inevitably to a substantial prison sentence. That sentence will be passed by a judge at this court on Thursday, October 21.”
The court heard that although Kabir is to be placed on the sex offenders’ register immediately, it was inevitable he will be deported to Bangladesh on release from his sentence.
Kabir was remanded in custody until his sentencing.
