A rare white stork has been spotted flying over the Suffolk coast this afternoon.

The bird is the second unusual spotting for bird watchers, after a white-tailed eagle was also seen in the area late yesterday afternoon.

The RSPB received reports of a white stork over Southwold Harbour at about 1pm today. It is thought the bird may have flown towards Reydon, causing much excitement among birdwatchers studying the Hen Reedbeds east of Southwold along the Halesworth Road.

One was spotted in the same area in May 2011 and photographed by Fred Vennell.

A white-tailed eagle was seen roosting in Benacre and then over Breydon Water yesterday.
