A project to ensure Lowestoft takes full advantage of the fishing industry is calling on those involved to develop a long-term strategy for the area.

The Renaissance of East Anglia Fisheries (REAF) project is a partnership between East Suffolk Council, Norfolk and Suffolk County Councils, Lowestoft Fish Market Alliance and Seafish, and aims to develop a long-term strategy to establish Lowestoft as the main regional hub, capturing and optimising fishing opportunities locally and regionally.

It will cover all sectors of the industry, from catching the fish to retail and restaurants.

June Mummery, from Lowestoft Fish Market Alliance, said: “This work will give the East Anglian fishing community a real shot in the arm and we really hope as many fishers participate in this work as possible to drive the future of the fishing industry forward.”

The project will speak to local people involved in the industry, assess different options to improve fishing opportunities, and create a clear plan to deliver the changes in East Anglia.

To get involved in the project, email reaf@eastsuffolk.gov.uk.
