Some of the UK’s biggest supermarkets and online stores are recalling products due to fears they may contain harmful chemicals and deadly bacteria.

Alerts about a number of supermarket and online recalls have been issued by the Food Standards Agency and Trading Standards this month. Both warn customers not to consume or use recalled goods but rather return them to the store for a full refund.

The following warnings are listed on the Food Standards Agency and/or Trading Standards websites:

• Tesco has recalled a batch of its 200g organic almonds with the batch code L8004010 because salmonella has been found in the product.

• Seven varieties of the dental whitening treatment Crest Whitestrips, stocked in stores including Amazon, have been recalled with a risk level of “serious” given by trading standards. This is because they contain the harmful chemical hydrogen peroxide and do not conform to Cosmetic Products Regulation.

• The manufactures of Dr Zak’s Barn Farmed Liquid Egg White, available from many health and fitness stores, confirmed salmonella in batches with a use-by date of December 12 2018 and a lot number of 18163BN2A and batches with a use-by date December 29 2018 and a lot number of 18180BN2A.

They have also issued a precautionary recall on batches with use-by date of December 29 2018 with lot number 18180BN2B and batches with the use-by date February 2 2019 with lot number 18228BN2A.

• Dearne Valley Foods is recalling batches of McWurst Scotch Egg products, which are sold in Booths and Booker stores, because Listeria bacteria has been found in two separate batches.

• As a precautionary measure Fazila Foods Limited are recalling packs of Five Large Lamb Kebab Rolls and Five Large Chicken Kebab Rolls of all dates up to and including best before November 28 2019 due to allergens (milk and sulphites) being left out from the ingredient list.

You can check the Trading Standards and Food Standard Agency websites for a full list of recall alerts.
