Line a large casserole dish with 4 or 5 slices of slightly stale bread that has been buttered on one side.

Lay buttered side against the dish. Sprinkle a generous handful of sultanas over the bread, and repeat this finishing with a layer of bread.

In a jug, mix a pint of milk with 2 eggs and 2 large tablespoons of caster sugar (whisk), then pour over the bread layers.

Sprinkle a little caster sugar over the top. Leave to soak for about 15 mins, then bake in oven for about half hour or until nicely browned on top.

Delicious served just warm with a little ice-cream.
