FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at a recycling centre in a village near Bury St Edmunds last night.
The fire was reported at the Greenways Recycling Plant in Newmarket Road, Risby, at about 8.35pm and four crews from Bury and Newmarket fire stations were sent to the scene.
A building at the premises was reported to be well alight and a fire service spokesman said there were also concerns about the flames spreading to a diesel tank and large items of machinery.
About 20% of a 2,000- tonne pile of straw and wood chips next to the building also went up in flames before the incident was brought under control. Crews remained at the scene well into the night damping down the area and ensuring the flames were completely extinguished.
