WHILE parts of southern England and Wales cope with renewed snowfall today, Suffolk and Essex seem to have escaped the worst.

Travellers across the UK faced more delays as the wintry weather returned to many parts of the country.

Snow settled overnight in Cambridgeshire, Hertfordshire and Bedfordshire - completing bypassing our region of East Anglia.

There was also snow in south Wales, western England and the Midlands, with up to four inches in some areas.

But while we may have escaped the worst today, residents in Suffolk and Essex are being warned of more snow on the way overnight on Friday.

A spokesman for WeatherQuest based in Norwich said: “It does look like we've escaped the worst of the snow.

“However there is the possibility of snow in the latter part of tomorrow as the weather front moves up, but this could turn to sleet.

“We have some quite cold air forecast for Friday night so we're warning drivers to be extra careful of icy conditions on the road.”

This morning stretches of the A1 running through Cambridgeshire were reduced to one lane and parts of the A14 were closed.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire County Council said more than 200 schools were closed.

St John Ambulance in Suffolk has been dispatched to Cambridgeshire and Bedfordshire to help those in isolated areas where a normal ambulance could not reach.

Keith Hotchkiss, operations manager of St John Ambulance Suffolk, said: “Once again our volunteers are working tirelessly and without complaint, through difficult conditions. We thank them all for their efforts in making East Anglia as safe as efficient as possible.”
