A body found in a Suffolk lake is thought to be that of a man in his 70s.

Police were called to reports of a body being discovered at Needham Lake this morning.

The discovery was made at the man-made lake – a flooded gravel pit in Needham Market – at about 6.30am.

Police do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

A spokesman said: “Police were called at 6.30am this morning, Wednesday, September 27, to reports that a body had been found by a member of the public at Needham Lake.

“Emergency services attended and the body of a man believed to be aged in his 70s was recovered from the water.

“The death is being treated as unexplained at this time, but detectives do not currently believe they are any suspicious circumstances and a file will now be prepared for the coroner.”
