A day old calf which got stuck in the River Lark at Mildenhall has died despite rescue efforts.
Two fire crews from Bury St Edmunds were called to the river at Wamil Walk and managed to haul the desperate animal to safety after an hour long rescue operation late last night.
However, the young animal collapsed on the bank and died. A spokeswoman for the RSPCA said the calf may have suffered brain damage after being submerged in the water.
