Residents at a care home in Braintree celebrated National Pizza Day with a nostalgic feast last week.

The men and women at RMBI Home, Prince Edward Duke of Kent Court gathered to make pizza for their evening meal and discuss fond memories of the dish.

The group also talked about the origin of pizza and residents’ first time trying the food.

Resident Hilda Dalley recalled her earliest memory of eating pizza.

She said: “I remember travelling to Italy with my husband in the 1930s for a holiday. We drove in our car, stopping at numerous places en route.”

Activities Coordinator Audrey Brown said: “Events like these help our residents socialise and reminisce. It is lovely to listen to all the stories of holidays and different cultures experienced by our residents during their lives. Everyone had an enjoyable evening, finishing it off by having our home made pizza for dinner.”
