A road in Suffolk was being closed last night as engineers investigated reports of a gas leak.

The road being shut was the B1119 at Knodishall, near Saxmundham, which was also thought to have partially collapsed.

Last night, a Suffolk police spokesman said Transco had arrived at the scene after the gas leak was reported by motorists.

The police spokesman said the closure of the road was likely to be “prolonged'' and diversions were being put in place by the Highways Agency who were also at the scene.
