PART of an Ipswich road has been closed this morning after a manhole cover collapsed causing the road to flood.

A burst water main, a six-inch PVC pipe which has given way, has affected 15 homes in the area.

The incident happened in Bramford Road at around 6.10am.

Police officers were called to the scene, where they discovered water flooding the road and pavement. They informed Anglian Water and the Highways Agency who are currently on site dealing with the problem.

A Suffolk police spokesman said Anglian Water have closed part of the road, in the out of town direction.

A spokeswoman for Anglian Water said they are currently working to fix the burst pipe and hope to have the water turned back on to the affected properties by lunch time.
