POLICE have named a schoolboy who died after he was in collision with a car.

Nine-year-old Michael Gibson was in collision with a red Honda Civic in Wellesley Road, at its junction with Alexandra Road, Clacton, at about 2pm yesterday.

The boy, who lived in Wellesley Road was rushed by Essex Air Ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge for emergency treatment but died last night.

The driver of the car and his passenger, aged 24 and 23, were both arrested in connection with the crash and have now been released on police bail.

An Essex Police spokesman said: “The boy, who was from Clacton, was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital by air ambulance.

“Tragically, despite the prolonged efforts of members of the public and medical staff he died at the hospital last night.”

A number of roads in the area were temporarily closed while officers carried out an investigation and examined the scene.
