ROBBERS have struck at a rural post office, the second raid in Suffolk in four days, and escaped with cash.

Three hooded men walked into the post office on the A134 at Ingham yesterday afternoon and demanded money from staff.

Although no firearm was seen and no-one was injured in the incident, detectives believe the gang might have been carrying a concealed weapon.

The three men were handed an undisclosed sum of money and fled the post office. It is believed they then got into car and headed towards Bury St Edmunds.

The postmistress of the Ingham store declined to comment last night on the robbery, which happened shortly after 4.15pm.

Police said the robbers were black, aged in their late teens or early 20s, about 5ft 7in tall, of slim build and wearing dark coats and black hoods to cover their faces.

Detective Inspector Andy Henwood, of Suffolk police, said: “This would have been a busy time on the A134 with people heading home from work or the school run.

“We are confident that someone will have seen something relating to this incident and I would urge you to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“It may be that you noticed someone acting suspiciously prior to the incident or witnessed a vehicle being driven from the scene at speed or erratically.”

The raid on the Ingham store was the second armed robbery on a post office in Suffolk in the past four days.

A man walked in to the post office and village store in Hacheston, between Framlingham and Wickham Market, at about 1.30pm on Friday and threatened joint manager Graham Westley.

The robber was carrying a carrier bag which appeared to have something in it and pointed it at Mr Westley.

After ordering Mr Westley to put money into a bag, the robber then left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Anyone with information about the Ingham robbery should telephone Suffolk police on 01284 774100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
