He opened with the words “Ipswich, dear old Ipswich” – but the legendary rocker has shown a minor gap in his knowledge ahead of his hotly-anticipated concert at Portman Road.
Rod Stewart has released a brand new video promoting his upcoming gig at the home of Ipswich Town, but some fans have spotted a blunder in his message.
“Ipswich, dear old Ipswich,” he says. “I am playing in your city on the 7th of June and if you click the link right there [pointing above] and pre-order the album you will receive first access to tickets. So I’ll see you there.”
While many are delighted that the bestselling rocker is coming to town, some took issue with his choice of words.

One viewer, Jane Summerfield, commented: “He has obviously had to record that umpteen times for all the venues – but it messes it up calling us a city! I remember when REM came to PR they flashed up all the dates on their tour – it went on forever. I don’t suppose they had the slightest clue where they were!”
Terry Harvey added: “Ipswich City FC? The clues are there Rodney!”
It was announced last week that Rod Stewart will return to Portman Road next summer in support of the release of his 30th studio album Blood Red Roses.
The singer, who last performed at the Blues’ stadium in 2007, will take the stage on Friday, June 7 as part of a seven-date national stadium tour.
The show will be the 73-year-old’s third appearance at Portman Road – having also played in 1991 – and marks his first UK tour in three years.
Rosie Richardson, Ipswich Town Football Club’s director of sales, said the club was “delighted” to welcome the star back to its home stadium.
Concert-goers will be treated to classic tracks from the rock legend’s glittering career as well as hits from his new album Blood Red Roses - which is being released on September 28.
