Fire crews stripped away roof tiles to prevent a fire from spreading at a large manor house in Boxford.

Crews were called to Stone Street in the west Suffolk village around 4.40pm earlier today.

Appliances, including an aerial ladder from Colchester, were sent to the scene. The fire was affecting the roof of a single-storey extension to the house.

A spokeswoman for the fire service said no one was hurt – with two hose reels used to extinguish the fire.

A ‘water fog’ – which uses mist to control a fire – was utilised to prevent the flames from spreading to the main house.

The fire was under control by around 5.40pm.
