To make sure you steer clear of traffic, here is our round-up of planned roadworks in Suffolk and Essex for the week ahead.

The following information on planned new and ongoing road improvements comes from Highways England and is correct as of Friday, April 6 and may change due to weather conditions.

A12 junctions 11 to 33: drainage surveys

Work to survey drains along verges and central reserves on the A12 between junctions 11 and 33 continues until Monday 16 April, with working hours of 9pm to 5am, weeknights only. Single lane closures will be in place during these works.

A12 Oaks Bridge, Colchester: bridge repairs

Work to improve the safety of the Oaks Bridge, near junction 29, by carrying out concrete repairs continues this week until late April. Work will take place on weeknights between 8pm and 6am. There will be lane closures on the A12, and temporary traffic lights beneath the bridge for local traffic.

A12 Essex: vegetation clearance

Work to improve journeys by clearing vegetation along the A12 verges between Ipswich and Brentwood continues this week. Lane closures will be in place past the section being worked on overnight, between 8pm and 6am. This work is due to be completed by the end of April.

A12 and A120: Essex: safety barrier repairs

An ongoing programme of work to repair damaged safety barriers along the A12 and A120 in various locations continues this week, with working hours of 8pm to 6am, weeknights only. Single lane closures will be in place past the area being worked on.

A12 junctions 19 to 26 Chelmsford to Colchester: road markings

Work to improve road user safety along the A12 northbound between Chelmsford and Colchester begins this week. The work is expected to be completed by mid-May. The northbound carriageway between junctions 19 and 26 will be closed on weeknights between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion route will be in place via the A138, A130, A131, and A120 to Marks Tey and along the B1408 to A12 J26.

A14 junctions 51 to 43: carriageway repairs

Concrete repairs to the A14 between junctions 49 and 47a continues this week and is due to be completed by Friday 13 April. The westbound carriageway will be closed between junction 51 and 43 on Monday to Wednesday nights between 8pm and 6am. A signed diversion route will be in place via the A140 and A143. Please allow additional time for your journeys.

A14 junctions 47a to 49: carriageway repairs

Concrete repairs to the A14 between junctions 49 and 47a continues this week and is due to be completed by 13 April. The eastbound carriageway will be closed on Thursday and Friday nights between 8pm and 6am, with a signed diversion route in place via the old A14 and Tot Hill.

A14 Orwell Bridge to junction 62: resurfacing

Work to resurface the concrete carriageway between Orwell and Levington and the carriageway between Levington and junction 62 continues this week. The work is being carried out in sections between 8pm and 6am each night (Monday to Friday). The westbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 59 and 57 on Monday to Wednesday nights with a signed diversion route via the High Road, through Trimley St Martin, along Felixstowe Road and along the A1156. The westbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 59 and 55 on Tuesday night with a diversion via the High Road, through Trimley St Martin, along Felixstowe Road and the A1156, then the A12 and A1214. The westbound carriageway will be closed between junctions 58 and 55 on Wednesday to Friday nights with a signed diversion route via the A12 and A1214. The work is due to be completed by 19 April.

A120 Crown Bridge, Colchester: structural repairs

Work to improve the safety of the Crown Bridge near A12 junction 29 by carrying out structural repairs continues this week until late April. Work will take place on weeknights between 8pm and 6am. The north and south side of the bridge will be fully closed at separate times. Clearly signed diversions will be in place. Southbound traffic (for the A1232) will be diverted via A12 junction 28, Axial Way and Severalls Lane to the A1232. Northbound traffic will be diverted west to A12 Junction 28 where they can join the A12 northbound carriageway.

A120 Hare Green roundabout, Harwich Road, Essex: safety improvements

Work to remove the Harwich Road traffic island and realignment of road markings to create a new running lane begins this week. The westbound carriageway will be closed between the Horsley Cross roundabout and the A120 junction with the A133 on weeknights between 8pm and 6am. During closures, road users will be diverted via the B1035, B1033 and A133. Daytime works remain off-road and include ongoing drainage works and earthworks for the new roundabout. This major scheme will be completed later this year.

A120 Ramsey Roundabout, Harwich: lighting column replacement

Work to improve safety at the A120 Ramsey Roundabout near Harwich by replacing lighting columns continues this week. Work will take place on weeknights between 8pm and 6am, with temporary traffic signals to manage traffic across the roundabout. We will endeavour to complete these works as quickly as possible to minimise disruption in the area.
