Former members of the Royal Naval Patrol Service (RNPS) are set to return to Lowestoft next month for their annual reunion and parade.

The event will see the veterans return to their Second World War headquarters, HMS Europa, in the Sparrows Nest Gardens on Saturday, October 6.

During the Second World War, the town was the central depot of the RNPS, whose main role was minesweeping to keep vital supply lines open.

There were about 66,000 men in the Patrol Service serving in 6,000 ships of which 14,000 were killed and 600 ships lost.

Each year veterans travel from across the country and return to Lowestoft for their annual meeting as the reunion.

RNPS Association national secretary Leo Whisstock said: “This is our 43rd reunion, the service will be held in Belle Vue Park at 11am at our National memorial and followed afterwards by a march past and ‘sunset’ outside our headquarters and museum.”
