Two fire crews from Princes Street followed the cart back to a landfill site in Claydon to extinguish the fire.
The crews were called at 1pm to reports of a lorry on fire in Meadow Close, Chelmondiston.
On arrival, firefighters found a dustcart with a fire located within the refuse store of the vehicle.
Due to the quantity of the rubbish and the likely difficulty in clearing the road, the crews followed the vehicle back to the company landfill site in Claydon.
Once in attendance, the contents of the vehicle were emptied and extinguished. The incident was brought under control by 3.50pm.
