A PRISONER who escaped while on an escorted visit to an address in Suffolk has been detained by police officers in London today.

David Ambler, 31, was being escorted under guard to Brandon when he ran off along St Margaret's Drive at 11.45am on Thursday.

Ambler was serving a three year sentence for robbery at a secure unit in London.

It is not clear how he managed to escape, but a Suffolk police spokesman said he was detained by Metropolitan Police officers in the Stoke Newington area yesterday afternoon and returned to prison.

Police had been searching the Brandon area where Ambler ran off and making house to house inquiries.
