Seven mushroom-shaped staddle stones have been stolen from outside homes in Borley.
Several homeowners have reported theft of the stones from Borley Place.
The stolen stones were used to mark the side of the road, but originally staddle stones were used to lift up grain stores off the ground to prevent water or vermin damaging crops.
They were stolen between 8am on Friday and 8am the following day.
Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to contact PC Jamie Dove at Braintree police station at Essex Police on 101.
