A SCHOOLBOY is in a life threatening condition in hospital after he was seriously injured in a road crash this afternoon.
The accident happened in Wellesley Road, Clacton, at about 2pm when the young pedestrian was struck by a Honda Civic travelling toward Little Clacton.
The boy, who is thought to be aged about nine-years-old and is from the local area, was rushed by the Essex Air Ambulance to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge for emergency treatment.
An East of England Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “We were called at 1.59pm and a rapid response vehicle was there in less than three minutes, backed up by an ambulance and the air ambulance.
“The boy suffered serious injuries and his condition on arrival was believed to be life threatening.”

A police spokesman said a number of roads in the area were temporarily closed while officers carried out an investigation and examined the scene.
He also confirmed that two men were assisting officers with their inquiries.
