COASTGUARD and lifeboat teams searched the River Orwell after a man was seen sitting on the parapet of the Orwell Bridge.
Police were alerted by motorists who feared the man was going to jump off the structure.
Officers attended the scene but the person could not be found, and so they called Thames Coastguard to help search the waters below.
The RNLI Harwich Inshore lifeboat was launched at 5.20pm yesterday and both Holbrook and Felixstowe Coastguards were tasked to attend the scene.
A Coastguard spokesman said a thorough search was made of the area but no-one was found.
