Evergreen Garage is hosting another catalytic converter security marking session on Saturday.

The event, from 9am to noon, at the garage in Gosbeck Road, Crowfield, north of Ipswich, will see Suffolk police carrying out free permanent security marking of vehicles’ catalytic converters and recording them in a move aimed to deter thieves.

Jim Davey, who owns the garage with his brother Tony, said it was the second such security marking event held at Evergreen Garage because thefts of catalytic converters were still a problem and they could cost up to £1,000 to replace.

Catalytic converters reduce poisonous gases and pollutants from the vehicle’s exhaust system but thieves are ripping out the devices because they contain precious metals, such as platinum and palladium, which leaves motorists facing big repair bills.
