PETROL station bosses are reviewing security after a knife-wielding raider wearing a Hallowe'en mask threatened a cashier and stole cash.

As police renewed their appeals for witnesses to the raid at the Jet garage in North Terrace, Mildenhall, managing director Alister McFarquhar said procedures at the service station would be thoroughly examined.

He said: "While we will be examining our security, we do believe this incident was isolated. I have been here for 18 months and I can't remember anything else at all."

Police renewed their appeals for witnesses to the raid, which happened at 7.45pm on Tuesday.

The robber barged into the garage and threatened the female cashier with a knife before fleeing with a "small amount" of cash in the direction of Field Road.

Mr McFarquhar said his cashier was alone in the garage when the raider struck: "She was unharmed and it was all over in a very short space of time but she found the whole experience very, very frightening.

"She's at home today because she didn't feel able to come in. We will be offering her support over the next few days. We take the safety of our staff extremely seriously and we have started reviewing our security already."

Insp Paul Sharp, of Suffolk police, said although the robber burst into the shop alone he may have been accompanied by someone who stayed outside during the raid.

Detectives want to hear from people who saw anyone acting suspiciously around the petrol station in the run-up to the robbery.

The robber was possibly white-skinned, about 5ft 7in tall and of slim build. He was wearing a dark blue fleece jacket, blue jeans, a baseball cap and a Hallowe'en skull mask over his face.
