One of Britain’s most haunted houses – in St Osyth, Essex – is back on the market.
Sinisterly named The Cage, the two bedroom cottage in Colchester Road was used as a medieval prison as recently as 1908.
High levels of paranormal activity have been detected at the spooky home, where Ursula Kemp was hung in 1582 for being a witch, and now an online property agent has listed it online describing it as an ideal place to live or invest in.
Ghost hunters will be excited to see that orbs – solid spherical objects seen in flash photographs which are often associated with the supernatural – feature in images taken by the estate agents on their last visit to the house.
Author Micky Rawlings, who once lived at the house, claimed at the time to have slept clutching a crucifix.
Speaking to a national newspaper, he said: “I’m not a religious man and yet I go to bed every night clutching a crucifix for my own safety.
“After a few days, I got to learn the natural noises of the house. Now the non-natural noises keep my awake at night.”
Numerous television documentaries, including one which dubbed the house one of the UK’s most haunted, have been recorded at the cottage.
Another previous owner, Vanessa Mitchell, wrote a personal account of her experiences on an online forum which allows other visitors to share their spooky encounters at the house.
In a post called Moving In Day, she said: “Ornaments would fly of the mantelpiece, the old chain from the original prison building would swing back and forward as if to remind me of the horrific history of my home.
“The hall stairs door would crash open in a forceful almost violent way, blood splatters appeared in the hall in broad daylight in front of witnesses apart from myself.”
Previous guests have also claimed to have been bitten and spat at by poltergeists.
Daredevils, business owners and potential buyers are now invited to take a look around the house, which is being offered at £235,000.
Bosses said they believe the ideal purchaser for the property is someone connected to the paranormal industry.
