A double death at an Ipswich home is being treated as a “tragic incident involving two people known to each other”, police have said.

Officers reassured residents living near to Siloam Place, where the incident happened, that there is no threat to the wider community and that they are not looking for anyone else in connection with what happened.

The death of a man found outside the property, who died following serious injuries after apparently falling from a window, is being treated an unexplained, while the death of a woman found inside is being treated as suspicious.

Officers from Suffolk Constabulary were called to the scene just after 8.50am this morning.

Superintendent Kerry Cutler, policing commander for Ipswich, said: “This would appear to be a tragic incident involving two people known to each other and we are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time.

“As such there is no threat to the wider community, but I would appeal to anyone with any information about these deaths to make contact with our officers.

Siloam Place has been cordoned off as police and forensics attend the incident.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “I live in a house a few doors down and I can’t go back home.

“A detective came round this morning and spoke to us.

“I’m a bit shaken up - you don’t expect to come downstairs and have all this happening outside.

“It’s usually very quiet around here. I’ve been here a long time and normally it’s fine. We all talk to each other and get on.”

Neighbour Debbie Moran said: “I live just nearby, it’s quite scary that it happened so near. It’s just awful to think of it.”

Ward councillor Elizabeth Harsant said: “It’s quite a quiet area. People just get on with their lives - they’re busy people.

“I certainly do send my deepest condolences and hope we will soon have more information.”

Once the police have completed their immediate investigations at the scene, she said there need to be a series of police patrols to reassure residents in the area following the incident.

Councillor Jan Parry, who also represents the Holywells ward, said it was worrying to hear what had happened.

She said: “It is shocking and we are very aware of the impact it will have on the people living around that area.

“It is very worrying.

“We will look to support the local residents as soon as we get more information on the incident.

“We are a little in the dark at the moment on what has happened.

“We do have regular meetings in the community so will hope to have some more information on how we can help soon.

“It is certainly worrying for the community.”

Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the area of Siloam Place between 7am and 9am this morning, who may have seen or heard anything that could assist the inquiry.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact south CID at Landmark House on 101 quoting CAD 83 of August 6.
