Passengers using Greater Anglia trains are facing delays of up to 50 minutes this evening.

All lines have re-opened following a fault with the signalling system between London and Liverpool Street and Colchester but some train services are still being cancelled, delayed by almost an hour or revised.

Disruption is expected until at least 10pm today.

Services between Liverpool Street, Shenfield, Colchester, Clacton-on-Sea, Manningtree, Ipswich and Norwich are severely disrupted.

A Greater Anglia spokesman said: “Due to trains and train crew displacements, there may be short notice cancellations, alterations and delays of up to 50 minutes.

“Passengers are advised to defer their travel until 8pm.

“Passengers travelling between Liverpool Street and Southend Victoria may travel on c2c services via Fernchurch Street.

“Passengers travelling between Liverpool Street and Ipswich and Norwich may also travel via Kings Cross to Cambridge and from Cambridge travel on the local Greater Anglia services to Ipswich or Norwich.

“Please allow extra time for your journey.”

Network Rail engineers have repaired the fault and the signals have now been restored and trains are able to run.

Both Greater Anglia and Network Rail have apologised for the disruption.
