The widow of a Suffolk 7/7 bombing victim who was jailed for 32 months earlier this month for stealing £43,000 from her son’s compensation will have to serve an extra six months in prison if she does not pay him £10,000 in the next 28 days.

At Louise Gray’s sentencing hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on January 19 a cheque for £10,000 was presented to the court as evidence of her remorse and desire to compensated her 20-year-old son Adam Gray.

However, Michael Crimp, prosecuting told the court yesterday that the cash had not been paid to Mr Gray and he asked the court to make a compensation order to ensure he got his money.

Judge David Goodin described the theft of the £43,000 by 42-year-old Gray, of Sheldrake Drive, Ipswich, from her son as “mean spirited” and said the change in her position in relation to paying the compensation as “something of the serpentine”.

He ordered her to pay to her son within 28 days with a six month consecutive prison term in default.
