MEMBERS of the public prevented a purse theft in central Ipswich on Tuesday lunchtime.
A 48-year-old woman was waiting outside Top Shop in the Tower Ramparts Centre with her purse in her hand when she saw a hand grab the purse.
She then saw a man, described as being of Chinese appearance, tall, in his mid 20s, with black short spiky hair, wearing a black T-shirt and dark bottoms, running towards the exit of Tower Ramparts on to Tavern Street with the purse in his hand.
The woman ran after him, shouting for him to stop, and a few members of the public attempted to stop him.
One managed to trip the offender who then dropped the purse and left his trainer behind at the scene.
Police would like to thank these public-spirited individuals and also need to speak to them as they may have information about the incident and the offender that can help enquiries.
If you can help please call Ipswich Police on 01473 613500.
