IPSWICH Witches team manager Pete Simmons has welcomed the appointment of Leigh Lanham as captain for the 2009 speedway season.
“Leigh is the most experienced rider in the side and the eldest,” said Simmons. “He has no foreign commitments is English and lives locally.
“And on top of that Leigh has done the job before with Lakeside.”
Lanham will start his new duties against his former club as the Witches open their campaign with home and away challenge meetings against Lakeside.
And the traditional home and away Good Friday double sees Ipswich entertaining Lakeside in the afternoon, and then motoring down to Purfleet for the return fixture in the evening.
