A Suffolk man has confessed to downloading more than 2,000 indecent images of children onto his laptop, including six photographs and a video in the most serious category.
Andrew Matthews, of Darby Road, Beccles, was arrested after an indecent photograph was uploaded to an internet chat room and tracked to his computer’s IP address.
Police officers seized the laptop, as well as an external hard drive, which were found to contain 2,143 images falling into the least extreme category of indecency; 60 images and one video involving non-penetrative sexual activity; and a further six images and one video involving penetrative sexual activity.
The 45-year-old appeared in the dock at South East Suffolk Magistrates’ Court, in Ipswich, on Monday.
Matthews pleaded guilty to three charges of downloading the images and videos between February 2012 and June 2017.
