Essex’s highway team began emergency works today after a sinkhole was discovered in Colchester.
The county council were carrying out work in Plume Avenue when the discovery was made.
A spokesman for Essex Highways said: “We are working to ensure the road is level before carrying out resurfacing work in a few days’ time.
“We found that water drainage was washing out some of the materials underneath the surface, so we had to repair the drains and then rebuild the surface. We plan to be finished later this week.”
