IPSWICH Town legend Sir Bobby Robson was today granted the freedom of Durham.

The honorary award gives the former Ipswich, England and Newcastle boss the right to graze sheep in his home city.

The 75-year-old, who is battling cancer, was given the award in recognition of his services to football and his charity work.

During a ceremony in Durham's historic town hall Robson received a special scroll detailing his new status and was shown a commemorative plaque which will be hung in the hall to mark the occasion.

He was given a standing ovation by councillors gathered in the hall.
